Inspired by the beautiful oceans that unite the world, the watches of Citizen's UNITE with BLUE series join the colors of the seven seas on one 100% recycled polycarbonate dial.
This example, which comes as part of the dive-ready Promaster collection, marks a unique take on the classic sports style. The robust silver-tone stainless steel exterior ensures up to 200 meters of water resistance, making use of a 4 o'clock screw-down crown placement and an easy-grip bezel executed in a two-tone design is reminiscent of a sparkling emerald green ocean.
The strap made from biomass-based polyurethane, which includes plant-based materials, secures the timepiece to the wrist. The highly-legible dial is brought to life through pigment-free ink that uses light – the same light that powers the Eco-Drive technology within – to reflect off the surface of the ink microstructures and create an array of aquatic shades.
This style is part of the UNITE with BLUE collection, which highlights Citizen’s commitment to sustainability including a Promaster Dive model and CITIZEN L Bianca style. Inspired by watch shapes and designs of the 1970s, the Spinnaker Dumas represents a more muscular form in dive watch design. Taking its name from the famed diving pioneer Frédéric Dumas, the watch harkens to a capsule of dive watches that were designed explicitly for pure function and practicality in their role as pieces of diving instrumentation.
With a more muscular and bold silhouette, the Dumas Blue Yonder SP-5081-DD leans on more interesting, industrial like forms which captured the imagination of watch designers in the 1970s for practical as well for aesthetic reasons. A strong octagonal watch chassis is topped with mineral crystal 120 click uni-directional turning bezel with luminous calibrations.
The bezel serves to frame an unfussy, utilitarian dial featuring round and rectangular hour markers topped with Swiss Super-LumiNova for increased low light legibility. The oversized minute hands, serve the watch as a clear read out of time elapsed, delivering the watch as a unique piece of diver instrumentation.
The hexagonal shaped link construction bracelet that catches the light and detail of its finish while delivering a securely robust yet comfortable wear at any time. Each edge of each link is precisely chamfered and assembled into a bracelet that perfectly mirrors the strong geometry of the Dumas SP-5081-DD case.
