Junkers 6588-5 Sudamerika

Inspired by the heroic Junkers expedition from Cuba to Argentina in 1923, this elegant watch embodies the best of both worlds with a significant historical background showcasing a modern look. Hugo Junkers includes his inspirations from artists and expeditions and creates a collection resembling those experiences. The aspects of the adventure resonate with the watch with its high German quality and various unique features.

Hugo Junkers was not only a brilliant engineer, but also an admirer of expressionist paintings and modern design. As the South American expedition collection inspired various models each with different colours and features, this specific model lets you choose between an anthracite dial with a black leather strap and a cream dial with a brown leather strap, making it suitable for any formal and casual attire.

CASE

The 6588-5 is built in Germany under the highest quality measures for a demanding international clientele. With a weight of 73 grams and a case diameter of 42 x 12 mm, this watch is a bit heavier and has a larger case than most Junkers watches. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It leaves more room for unique features, which we will discuss shortly, while bringing all of the attention to your wrist.

The silver stainless steel case with a pressure cap has the engraving “Junkers F13” on the left side of the case. The case back features a diagram of the aircraft used during the expedition with “Sudamerika Expedition” engraved above and “Made in Germany” below it. The water resistance is 5 ATM (50 meters).

MOVEMENT

The 6588-5 watch is powered by a Japanese Miyota 6S11 quartz movement by Citizen. It measures at 34 by 5 mm thick and features hours, minutes, small seconds, a 60 minutes chronograph and a date.

The motor accuracy is -20/+20 seconds per month. Its 399 Swiss Renata battery has a 4 year life expectancy, making this a reliable watch.

DIAL/HANDS

This model is an epitome of a sophisticated, modern and reliable timepiece. The dial features a date display located at the 3 o’ clock position, a seconds sub-dial located at the 6 o’ clock position and a 60 minutes sub-dial located at the 12 o’clock position.

Its thin and elegant dark grey hands on the cream dial make it quick and easy to read the time. The light grey indices glued on the hour indicators create a slight contrast from the beige dial and dark grey hands with small Arabic numerals representing the minutes in 5-minute intervals.

The sub-dials form a black and white outer circle with small Arabic numerals in 10 seconds/minutes intervals. They also have a small dark grey hand and the number 60 coloured in blue.

CRYSTAL

Its hardened mineral crystal frames the dial making this an affordable, stylish and durable watch for all of your expeditions.

CROWN

With three crowns on the right side of the case, there is a lot you can control with this watch. Pushing the middle crown back midway allows you to adjust the date while pushing it back all the way allows you adjust the time. The top pusher allows you to stop and start the central seconds while the bottom pusher allows you to reset the chronograph function.

STRAP

The back of the leather strap states, “Shell cordovan calf, handmade in Germany”. Its brown 22mm leather strap has beige stitching on the sides making it suitable for everyday use.

CONCLUSION

With its unique features built with durable materials, this timepiece has everything you need for your next expedition while looking stylish.
